Attached is a picture of the interior of the Toshiba DVD/TIVO combo drive. The case comes off very easy. Three screws on the back and two on each side. You have to lift up slightly before pulling the case up and back off the device.

I guess the CPU is located under the hard drive cage. There are couple of heatsinks on the chips under this cage, so I assume this is the processor. As a simple mod, you could probably fit a 60MM fan to blow over the hard drive and the processor, using a power splitter on the hard drive, which is a standard Maxtor 80 GB, Diamondmax 16. The DVD is in the middle.

I wish I could simply clone this drive to a bigger 120 GB drive and get more space.

BTW, Diamondmax 16 is a 5400rpm 2MB cache hard drive.

Have you tried replacing the drive at all?
