ok....putting dollars aside.....
if u had to choose ...which extended service plan is the most convenient and easiest to deal with. the stores' service plans or the dtv 7.99/mo service plan?

If money was no object, then D* plan is probably easier (and lasts forever). However, money is an object and D* protection plan is overpriced compared to the protection plans offered by the stores. If once that expires, you still want a protection plan you can always convert to the D* plan.

Advantage to D*TV plan is that it covers all equipment. So if you have multiple receivers, it is not so costly on a per unit basis.

Cover's only D* equipment, right? That is, it doesn't cover the TV or other "system" equipment.

Thats right, but in my case it covers three receivers, cabling and the dish.
For the three receivers, I would have paid several hundred $$ individualy, and even more when (and if) I add the HD.
