no one knows yet. Some speculate about VBR, giving your TiVo more space.

But for my SA unit, I'm not expecting anything worth writing home about.

Someone speculated here a while back that the "save disk space" option isn't actually VBR, but rather simply cuts the vertical resolution in half. Now wouldn't that be a disappointment!

I feel pretty good based on extensive reading of the forums that we have a solid chance at getting VBR based on hints some people have dropped. Am I counting on it... no, but I do think we'll get it. The question is: what the will the quality look like and how much space savings on average are we talking about... after all VBR on DirectTV is done by $100,000 computers, not a $299 Tivo.

Assuming the SAs will have whatever 2.5 features aren't specific to DirecTV (which I don't know to be true but historically it has been between like-numbered versions), according to the dtivo update manual there is:

Someone please tell me that when I was enjoying 2.01 early I wasn't so obnoxiously and constantly rubbing other peoples nose in it?

Gee, I have been gone for a long, long time. I didn't even know 2.5 was in existence. Hello again!

Well that will cut down on my wish lists! I wonder if it is partial on all words and regardless of order?
I will have to try it out!
Too bad we don't have an or function to go with that.

Dinosaur or Paleontologist

Still two wish lists here....

The grid view shown is actually the traditional directv grid which has always been available on the DTivos (you can select it or tivo 2 column guide views). Tivo could add something like it for SA (subject to whatever rights Dtv may have), but don't expect it in 2.5 simply because it's in the Summer 2001 DTivo guide.

And btw, having had a dtv only system a while before getting a dtivo box, I like the 2 column setup much better than the DTv grid. Especially, right before bed when trying to decide what to record overnight. The only downside is some of the show titles get cutoff. But that happens almost as much with the grid.

Is it possible for RB or anyone to at least give a hint at when to expect a similar SA 2.5 rollout, frankly I don't know if we should expect our "blind test" tonight or in Nov. after all the DTivo's have been upgraded...

That is all I want... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hmmm... Tick mark thing.. Very minor. Two things dealing with parental control. Not an issue for a single guy.

Other things have to do with wish lists. Some improvement, but nothing for me to get excitied about.

Looks like I won't be writing any letters home.

The default is or as long as you don't put quotes around them. So simply making a wish list for...

Dinosaur Paleontologist

should do what you want.

Nope. The default is "and" if you don't put quotes around them. They don't have to appear together or in that order but they must both appear to match. If you do use quotes it's neither AND nor OR really as it will just look for the phrase "dinosaur paleontologist".

Hmm... I don't really use Wish Lists much, so I just assumed. Although I have personally requested Boleen Whish List so that I could have access to NOT, so if they ever get around to implementing it they'll probably add OR too.http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

How about "not in". Now there's a feature that would send shivers through the developer's bones.

Full SQL? I think it's easy to make search engines too complicated for the average Joe to understand. I used to love search engines in the earlier days of the 'net. Now they're really dumbed down to the point that I can't be as selective as I used to be.

Why am I babbling?

Anyway, the point is that really extending wishlists selection criteria could end up in a lot of work for the Tivo, developers and users by making them incomprehensible to most. If you wanna talk bugs, talk to RDBMS developers.
