Modem

I too have the modem problem. Started with answering my phone after downloading, then progressed to having modem not responding problems. I could unplug it and after a few minutes it would work ok. Then took several hours, finally it does not work. I am intrigued by the idea of hooking it into my home network system, but it seems to only work with DSL and I have a cable modem. Does anyone have any ideas.

There are several different ways to get TiVo schedule updates without using a modem. They are not limited to DSL nor are they limited to folks who have added the TiVoNet card. Go to the TiVo Underground forum and do a search on PPP or search for PPP at http://www.tivofaq.com/hack/faq.html

For what it's worth, the TiVo serial port option and the TiVoNet card will both work with any always-on internet connection. DSL, cable modem, T1, the TiVo doesn't care. It's even possible to hack together your network to dial out whenever a device on the network requests an internet connection (but that's outside the scope of the TiVo forums...)

Sorry to hear your bad news. I guess you are the 56th person to have a modem break. wink wink ;(

ElectricLegs may be able to fix it for you.

Fill me in on how to "fix" my Tivo's.

Both of my modems died (although due to lightning) I can't really blame Tivo, rather than pay $139 each and be without them while I ship them I'm planning on buying new ones. If I could get the old ones to work it would be great.
