Unable to telnet to tivo- Tivonet board seems functional

Ok I put in a tivonet card and gave my Tivo an IP of 10.1.1.254 When I first set it up I could telnet to it no problem. Tonight well this morning I decided I wanted to view the logs so I tried to telnet in. I tried putty, windows 2000 telnet client and windows me telnet client and none worked. I even told TiVo to reboot itself. I know it's on the network because the switch shows activity and I can ping the unit as well as make test calls though the network connection. Is there any way to get my telnet back without yanking the drives?

There's a recent thread in this forum concerning this problem (when the search engines become available, it should be easy to find). Jack has a telnet daemon that's more stable.

To get the telnet daemon working again, login via the serial port and restart it, or just reboot the TiVo. Don't use whatever telnet client crashed the daemon last time (until you get a better telnet daemon running).

As I said in my original post I had rebooted the Tivo and was still unable to telnet in. I can't go in over serial because although I have the correct adapters It seems the cable from tivo is bad.

Could you be using the same telnet client that causes the telnet daemon to crash? If so, could you try another telnet daemon after rebooting the TiVo. The thread I've mentioned lists some of the known bad and known good telnet clients.

Don't use windows commandline telnet or readhat 5's telnet and you'll be fine. Try hyperterm on windows.
