Does anyone know the intended or best terminal emulation to use for the bash or tivosh on the DSS serial port?

Which may or may not be related to my second problem...

I tried to run joe but I got an message that joerc contained errors. If I run it anyway I can't do anything with it and I can't quit out. I was forced to re-boot.

Did I use the wrong version of joerc or is my terminal emulation wrong or did joerc get screwed up or translated during the zmodem transfer???

Is there a built in text editor on the TIVO? Or another way to edit files without "external" software? I won't need to edit very often so it doesn't matter if it's not the easiest way.

If you unpacked joe using winzip, make SURE that smart CR/LF conversion is turned OFF. Otherwise the RC file gets corrupted. Also, i guess you know it needs to be stored in /var/hack IIRC.

Ok, that problem is fixed. You were right WinZip was translating and my terminal prog was translating during zmodem also. So now joe works but of course I can't write to /etc in order to edit rc.sysinit.

What's the mount command to make the disk writable?
I'll try do do a search in the archives...
