i was recently upgraded from 1.3 to 2.0, this is a 1 drive unit and we had hacked it so that it would download through the internet through PPP, but now with the upgrade we no longer have bash access to remake the changes, has anyone been able to get access to bash again, on a 1 drive unit?

As reported elsewhere.. shondss is gone from 2.0; you'll have to yank your drive to get bash access again.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news..

what exactly is involved in "yanking my drive" do i have to just pull it off the ide and boot ?

Posted by: bsnelson

No, you have to put the drive in a PC and use something (I used DBD and joe) to hand-hack the bash command back into /etc/rc.sysinit on the current root partition.

I'm pretty sure there's instructions in the Hack FAQ..

My bad.. I'll take my lumps. I had forgotten about this procedure - embeem is correct.

As posted before you do not need to yank the drive, the alternate root partition still contains 1.3 with the shondss backdoor.

This is IF your alternate partition contains 1.3. Mine actually contains Z15, while the other contains Z16. Just a reminder that there were a LOT of people who got beta versions.

I just added the shondss backdoor back into the rc.sysinit file on my 2.0.1 unit to get a bash prompt once again and it works fine. However, it looks like I now have to remove shondss=true from the boot params in order to be able to use the serial port for dss control.

Under the 1.3 software I left shondss=true in place all the time and when I wanted to get a shell I just switched Tivo from serial cable control to IR control. The dss control took precedence over the command to start bash.

Can anyone confirm this has changed? Not a huge deal as I have reset my ROM password to factory so I can get in OK, but it does seem different.

Don't you also have to add runmyworld=false if you're going to "revert" to 1.3? 2.0 had some MFS changes that would be Really Really Bad(tm) if 1.3's myworld accessed it, no?

Yeah, I did add that while I was temporarily booting my old 1.3 partition to edit my 2.0.1 partition.

What I was trying to say was that when I had 1.3 software (prior to 2.0.1 downloading) I left shondss=true on all the time, but now under 2.0.1 with a modified rc.sysinit I have to take it off the boot params if I want serial dss control.

It would probably be a good idea for those who have a residual 1.3.0 installation (mine is Z16) to mount it and edit rc.sysinit so that runmyworld=false is set there. Then you wouldn't need to remember to do that.

Or I guess you could leave that in the boot parameters anyway, since the equivalent setting for 2.0.1 is different.

Huh? runmyworld is different in 2.0? Seemed to work fine for me!
