Maxtor stuttering problem?

Hullo,
I'm a TiVo newbie with a refurb HDR112 that I just received 3 days ago. I swapped the A drive with a Maxtor 60GB (96147H8) and for awhile, everything seem fine. But yesterday night, as the TiVo was doing "housekeeping" and upgrading its firmware to 2.01, I noticed that I was getting occasional stutters when playing back a recorded program. The picture and sound would freeze for a second and then it would snap back. I know that this is an old topic but I was curious if there was any definitive findings on what settings I need to put my Maxtor at. Also, if this problem was simply because the TiVO was recording a broadcast channel, playing back a show, and upgrading/housekeeping itself at the same time.
As an aside, I noticed that v2.01 of the software cut my capacity from 75 to 63 hours. I remember reading something about this in the FAQ but was curious what the missing capacity was being used for.
Thanks!

No one knows for sure what causes stutters, but TiVo crunching a new release definitely seems to be one of the culprits. Hopefully the stutters will clear up in a few days.
The missing drive space is to be used for "future features" which have not been announced as of yet.
Good Luck and Welcome to the Tivolution!

It seems that my TiVO's stuttering problems are limited to when the TiVO is updating in the background. I haven't tried to set /AVSET yet but I might give that a try and see what happens. I did noticed that RUNIDETURBO=OFF since I told TiVOMAD that I was running v1.3 at the time of the HD upgrade. I dunno if that has anything to do with it or not.
Does anyone if this problem is limited to upgraded TiVO's or does it happen on normal TiVO's?

I add stutters on my upgraded Phillips with a 30 gig Maxtor. The drive finally failed after a year and I replaced it with a Quantum LCT20. All stutters have stopped and my Tivo is running perfectly.
Regards..
