Sanity check - Backup???

Hi all,
I just snagged the last Western Digital 60 gb drive at Sam's Club ($86) and plan to expand my 14 hr Phillips. It was one of the first TIVOs and is way out of warranty.
I've read all the FAQ's (thanks to all who took the time to wrote and publish the documentation!) and although backups are strongly recommended, I can't see the point.
PTVupgrade.com will restore my original drive for $75 if anything bad happens. Why should I invest $100 in a new drive to store my backup image?
Does anyone see a flaw in my logic?
Thank you.

sure...what happens when the dot com goes out of business? And...how long do you want to wair to get your TiVo back up?
Since many have found 5400 rpm 60 GB drives for about $85...seems a better angle?

Why don't you just use the original drive as your backup. Put a 14 hour image on your new drive and expand it with TiVoMad. this will give you about 60 hours of basic recording time. I would not want to take the chance of not having a backup.

You really don't need another drive just to store the backup. I backed my Tivo up to a tar.gzipped file that I moved to tape after it completed.
