TivoNet RF Noise

Has anyone else noticed the RF noise generated by adding the TivoNet board??? I have a Yamaha T-60 tuner that I use to pull-in distant FM stations and I hear a regular popping noice whenever I have my Tivo plugged in. I can also hear it, (but much more faintly) on my A/V receiver when using the tuner. The noise is not coming from my hub (about 20 feet away) or from the Ethernet cable on the TivoNet ethernet card (it's there when the cable is removed). My Tivo is about a foot from my T-60 tuner.

Yup, you're not alone. It drives my Radio Shack IR extender absolutely bonkers. The problem isn't so bad when the TiVo's case is on. But when I open it up, it renders the extender useless.

No big deal in my case, but it sounds like you may need to add some home-grown shielding to your TiVo.

Can anyone recommend a way to sheild the Tivo/TivoNet card?? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you sure its the card? My X-10 extender seems to go crazy in tune with the writing to the hard drive.

Is the case on the TiVo and closed?

Yes, the case is closed. I keep my extender in the wall unit and use the extender to get it to work while the door is closed.

Well, for whatever reason most of the RF noise is no longer noticable on my tuner now that I have the Tivo back in my cabinet. The Tivo is now CLOSER to the tuner (on the shelf directly above the tuner) than it was when I had sitting on the floor next to the cabinet. Could it have been how they were orientated in relation to each other?? Hmmmm....

Well, I spoke too soon. The RF noise is still there and as worse as ever. I have determined that noise is being picked up by the receiving antennae of my tuner. I put a choke on the Ethernet cable and no dice. I tried moving the tuner away a few feet and reorienting the antennae, but nothing worked. What did work was moving the tuner about 30 feet away. Any ideas what could be causing all the noise? The station I am trying to get is 106.7 MHz and the noise seems to be the worst around this frequency. Does the LinkSys Ethernet or the TivoNet board have anything that oscillates near this frequency??? Does anyone have any suggestions?? Having the tuner on the other side of the room with a 30 foot cable strung to my pre-amp is not the optimum solution here! Please help!

I have had problems with linksys switches generating RF noise, especially in the AM bands. They build the things in plastic cases, so it's no wonder it radiates.

Listen to Don and Mike on the AM affiliate in MD, instead of trying to pick up 106.7
