Manually set IP address for PPP over Serial?

Is there anyway to manually set the IP in the Tivo for your serial port pppd connection?
I think my system wants to work right with the software I have for it (Windows 98 using wingate or winproxy) but I don't know what IP my Tivo is trying to communicate on hence I don't know what IP to tell my wingate or winproxy to look for when it communicates over serial?
In the setup options "factory" password, there is an option for IP addresses with a Local, Remote and Gateway space for an IP. Can I alter those or use those in someway to set my wingate or winproxy?

The ppp server defines the IP address for the TiVo. The TiVo doesn't determine its own address. Look at the wingate/winproxy documentation for more information.

The IP shown in the PROM menu isn't actually used, ignore it. The address is established durring the inital ppp handshaking, one end of the ppp connection should have an idea of which IP it wants to use. It doesn't really matter which end.
If you want the pppd on the TiVo do negotiate IP addresses then add a line into your /etc/ppp-options.ttyS3 like so
code:
10.0.0.1:10.0.0.2
You can also add it to the commandline that pppd is launched by instead. The first IP is the TiVo's IP address, the second is the IP address to assign the other computer. Trying to put it on the same subnet as the rest of your comptuers will create routing problems for windows.
