Bash On 2.0.1 Help
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok i am trying to get a bash prompt on 2.0.1 on /dev/hda4
But on /dev/hda7 the hd still has 1.3 and i can get to it and get a bash prompt in a serial connection with boot params root=/dev/hda7 runmyworld=false shondss=true
I have never hacked the box so what do i need to change in 1.3 to get bash on 2.0.1? And How Do I DO It.

Here is what I did to get a bash prompt via my serial port.
in rc.sysinit right after where the path gets set I entered
exec /dev/ttyS3 >& /dev/ttyS3
and as the last line in the file I did a
bash --login
Worked perfectly. I just got my TivoNet installed so I pulled out the serial port commands since I use my serial port to connect to one of my DirecTV receivers (Tivo uses the serial port to change the channel on the DirecTV if you set it up that way)

I have question for whomever can explain.
SRyan2k1 states that he can get to bash prompt by doing the boot parms. So doesn't that mean that he is really booting up on 1.3 all of the time? He states that v2.01 is on the /hda4. But once you boot on v2.01 you don't have the boot parms anymore and can't get into the serial port without popping the drive and modifying the rc.sysinit file.
Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

If you don't mind my asking, I'm having some trouble getting my TivoNET stuff working. Could you read this thread:

and tell me if you encountered any of the issues I've run into? I'd appreciate any insight you might have.

Just a note if you are trying to get bash on DTiVo /w 2.0.1 then you will need to chattr +i rc.sysinit else it will restore it from the backup in the kernel.

Hey Mazzic. What I did was 2.0.1 ran on /dev/hda4 but 1.3 that was a backup or something was still lining on /dev/hda7 so in boot params if you tell it root=/dev/hda7 runmyworld=false shondss=true
you get all of 1.3's boot optioins because thats what you are booting from. Dont forget runmyworld=false or the system will try and start myworld and because 2.0.1 changed the file system it will crash and possibly erase both partitions. An easy hack and i did it with opening the box!
