I hate to bring up the modem subject again but having read through all the old post I still have a question. How do most people make their daily call. Do you keep your line plugged in all of the time, only plug in when you are calling, or are you using a wireless phone jack? Do the wireless phone jacks protect your modem? What would the difference be between that and a regular jack? Do people use the serial dial up? I am not complaining and please oh please don't start the "I hate my tivo modem" thing. I truly don't want to cause a problem. I just had my modem fixed and I want to know the best way to protect it.

I leave mine plugged in all the time except when I know there's a storm rolling through. The only sure thing is the wireless modem jacks since we know the phone surge protectors aren't protecting them. The protection of the wireless sytem is because there's no actual physical connection between the line and the Tivo Modem.
This is the best deal I found on them. http://www.globe-mart.com/comm/phon...onex/PX-441.htm
BTW... Saturday should be a good day for you!

I will trump you with the cost thing. I got my RC-930s from this outfit: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/quaindinc/rcawirmodjac.html
only $40. The RCs are probably identical to Phonix units. Also, haven't people been getting the units on Ebay for $30?

Your not playing with the same 56k deck! I doubt a Tivo owner would notice the speed difference though.

Am I reading this thread correctly? If you have a wireless modem jack you are COMPLETELY protected and can leave the TiVo connected 24/7, never worrying about a surge?

I don't know about "completely" but it's as good as it gets for now. Figure a Phonex kit and 1 extra reciever delivered for about $90 will get 2 tivo's in different rooms pretty well protected. If they're close to each other than a single one will work fine with a splitter.

I have my modem routed to my power bar surge protector and then to the wireless modem jack for extra protection. Thus I should be protected from a surge either on the phone line of through the electrical system, just in case there is a problem and the two aren't grounded together.

They are now $45 and shipping is more than $10 for ground UPS.

My modem died WHILE using a wireless modem jack, so no, not completly.
