Lightning killed my Tivonet board!

I had a Tivonet board that I built from the kit at 9th Tee and it had been working for a couple of months until my house got hit by lightning. Among the things that got killed were my 10/100 hub and most of the network cards connected to it. Included with this was the NE2000 card in my Tivo. Not that big a deal, right? I just dug a new one out of the parts pile and figured I'd be back in business, but no such luck.

The lights on the Tivonet card and NE2000 both light up. When running the kernel modules, the Tivo can read the MAC address of the NE2000 card. But, I can't ping the card or connect to the network from the Tivo. Also, the Tivo doesn't show "Backdoors Enabled" in the System Information as I believe it did after I first installed the Tivonet card.

Any ideas where to go from here? I'm assuming the Tivo isn't damaged because everything else seems to work fine. Any obvious things to test on the Tivonet board? I'm not real good at troubleshooting electronic circuits on my own, but I can test things with a meter and scope with a little guidance. I guess I'll build the GAL programming cable and see if I can read the chip, unless someone has a better place to start? Thanks...

How are you initializing the card? (Commands, scripts, any errors reported?)

Are you sure that your NE2000 matches the NE2000 that you originally had? (linksys has been known to occasionally change the design of cards, needing different drivers, but keeps the model number the same)

I am always suspect of any NIC that has not been tested. So many NE2000 compatible cards do not work.

It is the same exact kind that I pulled out of there, but it has not actually been tested. I guess that would make sense to do that first... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif I'll test it in a PC and see what happens.

Any idea if the Tivonet board is supposed to put the Tivo in 'Backdoors Enabled' mode if the NIC doesn't exist?
