TiVo Linux source for 2.5?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I wonder how long it will be (if ever) before TiVo posts the source to 2.5 at http://www.tivo.com/linux/index.html ?

Isn't this required by the GPL?

Only the portions of the linux kernal they have modified.. I don't know if there are kernal mods in 2.5 but my guess would be yes...

The actual code that makes 2.5 what it is, is not under GPL... This is proprietary TiVo code..

We asked for the updated sources for 2.0.1 a little while after the rollout happened. Yes, we can demand them immediately and I'm sure they'd provide them asap as required, but let's do them the favor of letting them roll out 2.5 and catch their breaths before we ask them.

Given the rumored mods to 2.5 for DirecTiVo - those of us with TivoNET cards are going to need that source code <ggg>.

Doesn't help if the cause of the problems aren't open-source. E.g., if the code that restorse the images are in the PROM, then it's unlikely that that code will be in the source distribution.

It's just the source code to the kernel, and the programs they use.

Yes, as Spoke said - "I am aware of those facts".

I've been waiting for someone to pipe up regarding what CAN and CANNOT be done on DirecTiVo boxes running 2.5 (I don't have 2.5 yet on any of my 3 boxes). Curiously, no one has come forward yet.

If the main files are "protected," then it's not possible to do TiVoMad (because it changes startup scripts to get the new partitions and drives to marry0, as well as TiVoNet (ditto - at least an automated version to get TiVoNet up and running. I'm sure youc an still start up TiVoNet manually...).

But I guess it's more or less that 2.5 is coming soon, and the current rollouts are close to final release, but not quite. Plus, there's still an NDA to contend with...
