I have a Maxtor 60GB 5400rpm 96147H8 drive that checks out fine with all of the diagnostics and I have done all the setup steps anybody has recommended but I still get studdering problems with the picture. Had to resort to my origianl 20gb which works great.
I am going to retire it or sell it. I and am willing to try another drive. Any suggestions? I have a Tivo 20 hour unit with 2.01

You did try the runideturbo=false, right? That would be my only other suggestion.

Have you turned off write verification?

You said you tried all setup steps so am assuming you have done this but:

Turning off write verification using the Maxtor wvset program (this could potentially cause stuttering if left on).

Turn off acoustic management using the amset utility.

You could have just gotten a drive that has a head minutely out of alignment causing longer seek times or some other cause. Sometimes just luck of the draw, doesnt mean all the Maxtor 60gb 5400s should be avoided.

I have two of them running right now (only checked one of them, and the model number was the same). I didn't change any settings to them out of the box (no acoustic management changes, etc). Just cloned my original onto them, run TivoMad's stuff, and viola.

I would guess you may have a bum drive. If you still having the packaging, take it back and try another. Sorry it doesn't help too much.
