Lucky Badger!
When you do the upgrade, I'd be interested to know what the partition table looks like. When I examined my DTiVo's A Drive last night, it appeared to have two MFS pairs alone (plus one more on the B Drive?). Please let us know how many pairs exist on your single drive.
Another question or two:
PPL have commented that you can add as many pairs as you want to an SA TiVo system, but that you can only run mfsadd once, thus however many pairs you are going to add, make them, and then be done. It has also been said that you cannot increase the size of any pairs on your A Drive since MFS stores those sizes and will only use what it thinks it has, so.....
Is it possible with an SA to dd the existing A drive over to something larger, then add a pair with the remainder of the space, then add a second drive (or repeat the dd process), and mfsadd all the pairs at once, thus increasing both drives? Is this how Tiger got two 60GB drives in his TiVo, or did he extend the partition and alter the MFS database?
If it is possible to do that, would it be possible to do that with a dual drive DTiVo? I know it has multiple pairs (At least the dual drive systems), but did they create/add those pairs in a way which precludes mfsadd from being run?
If the single drive systems have multiple pairs, will they allow adding of more?
If no one knows, guess I'll have to check it out for myself:)

huh?!?!?!
Ok, seriously....I plan to bless a drive and put it in my DTiVo. Sorry - but I'm not as advanced as I wish to do what you're asking.
But I have it from a VERY reliable source that there are other Philips DTivos out there waiting for some of the more technically astute undergounders to get a hold of them.

The reason the combos have 2 MFS sets on 1 drive is actually quite simple. If you look at the partition layout, the offset of partition 2 is actually about halfway into the drive.. Partition 11 is at the beginning, then kernel, roots, and application partitions are in the middle, and the second media partition is at the end.
There are 2 reasons I can see.. Someone suggested that this was done since the data in the middle is less likely to get corrupted by drive problems.
The second reason I see is that the application space needs to be accessed a lot. So rather than put it at the beginning, causing the head to have to seek possibly all the way across the platter to find the data, it puts it in the middle, minimizing the seek time from wherever it was last writing or reading media.

Any form of tag that may help others identify drive count? Manufacture date, etc?

I haven't reviewed all the ramifications of doing this with a SA in a long time, but I would think you are really playing with fire here considering the lifetime sub for DirecTivo is tied directly to the box.
If this is actually a concern I wanted to voice it. I doubt my DirecTivo has only one drive anyway, as it was one of the early ones.

Congrats Ybrew!
Hey lets make a deal! I want it. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/biggrin.gif
It might be nice to know the approximate Philips serial # of it for others to check theirs. By the way I just picked up a Sony T-60 at Best Buy and it was a single drive. S0-801XXX and higher. I'm jealous, I like the Philips better.

Sorry - I couldn't find any manufacturer date on the outside.
The model number is DSR6000R01.
The Serial number is 47045XXX.
I don't know how helpful that will be though.
But - I'd bet it'd be HARD to find a dual drive DSR6000 nowadays. (just a hunch)

I think the R01 is a good indicator.

Is the R01 number or the 4704 Ser # on the outside of the box?
I might be ordering over the internet and I want them to tell me the number before I order. Same question for the Sony box. Is there any difference between the 2 other than the remote?
Thanks.

My Philips Model is: DSR6000R01
And my Serial # is: 4704XXXX
But how do I check my unit without voiding the warranty?

Far as I know, you don't. I think the real indicator is the 4704 serial number.
And yes, the serial number is on the oustide of the box (at least on mine). So is the model number - but I'm pretty sure the model number is the same as my dual drive Philips D-TiVo.

Mine is a model R01
Serial # 47001xxx
2 drives
I think its looking like serial numbers greater than 4704xxxx are single drive.
C'mon, someone figure out how to divorce drives!

It's great that the DSR6000 is now shipping with a single drive but I have not seen any post of exactly which single drive it is shipping with? From the archives the 2 drive DSR6000's had a Quantum 30g LCT 15 and a Quantum 15g LCT 15 which is a total of 45g. Are the single drives 40g or 60g?

yBrew: Have you upgraded yet? I am interested in knowing if a DTiVo upgrade goes as smoothly and easily as a SA upgrade (which I have done). There are no special instructions in the FAQs about DTiVo so I was not assuming that it was even possible to upgrade a single drive DTiVo. If you can upgrade this may finally push me over the edge to the DTiVo.
Thank you.

I should be getting my 80 gig drive on Monday. I'll also be getting a 40 gig backup drive today or Monday. I plan to have the upgrade done Monday or Tuesday night (after the backup is done).
I'll post the results here.
Scooter is also awaiting his 80 gig drive to upgrade his dtivo as well - and I'm sure he'll also be sharing his experience here too.

Just got my DSR6000 from Amazon. The serial number was 4703xxxx and it was a single drive!!!!!
I not really interested in upgrading this one yet, but it is nice to know that I can if desired......
I installed it last night, and didn't notice any of the audio drop-outs... Then again, I didn't really watch anything for any period of time.

Just got my DSR6000 from Amazon -- one drive, best I can tell w/o cracking the top (want to wait until it's out of warranty -- I'm the cautious type!).
Ser # 4705XXXX.
BTW -- any detailed instructions on adding a drive to a Philips DTiVo out there? Seen many for SAs and the Sony.

Rest assured, it is being worked on
TiVoMad
I understand TiVoMad is(was) working on a DTiVo Solution. I haven't seen any news from him in a while. Anybody know if that is progressing?

I purchased my DSR6000 (single drive unit) from WWW.MINI-DISHES.COM for $299.99 and came with a $100.00 rebate. I think there was $25.00 shipping. After rebate only $225.00.
New DirecTV customers pay much less :-)
I found it on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...item=1255111025 and has hundreds of them.
You can call directly and order. He ships same or next day.
Have DTiVo fun,

Are you aware that you no longer need a 40 GB drive to backup your DTiVo? I just got two Philips (single drive) DTiVo's from Circuit City (free after rebate, woohoo!) and I used the great mfstools utility to make my backup first. The backup (which tested fine, btw) only took up about 150 MB. I then burned it to CD's (a couple of times) for safe keeping.
read hinsdale's FAQ for the latest info.
