Very low-tech question

I want to upgrade the disk on a new Philips 6000 from CC (with warranty). Any details and hints to remove the seal so (in the remote case I need to have it repaired within 5 years)I could replace the seal if necessary? Thanks.

I was able to use an X-acto knife to gently lift up the sticker. I have done this to two units. One a Sony SAT-T60 (recently upgraded to 106 hours!) and the second a Philips DSR6000. On the Sony, it was ridiculously easy to pry up the sticker. Once I do that I like to tape a piece of something to the case that the sticker will not adhere to. I usually rip off a part of a book of stamps from the post office and tape this to the case. Then if I ever need to return it I can remove this piece and simply press the sticker back down.

I will mention that when I did this to the DSR-6000, the sticker did not want to come up from the case, but it did come up pretty easily from the removable cover. This makes is a little more difficult to put the cover back on because you need to hold the sticker down while sliding the cover forward.

On a side note some people have mentioned taking their machines back to Best Buy or Circuit City with the sticker removed or obviously tampered with and have had no problem obtaining service.

I used a blow dryer to heat the sticker and it slipped right off without leaving any of the tell-tale silver on the case.

Just remove the sticker and all signs of it and then return it. Tell them you have no idea if there was on on there or not.

What can they do.?

If "they" is TiVo, they will refuse to service the unit.

If "they" is Circuit City or Best Buy, and you bought a seperate performance guarantee of some sort, then they'll ignore the sticker completely.
