Anybody want to start up a DVR company?

Just curious, anybody interested in starting up a DVR company? I am, but it seems tough though in this economic environment. Here is what I propose.

1. The machine would cost no more than $500.
2. Would sell worldwide (PAL/SECAM/NTSC standards)
3. Dual voltage (120/240 50/60Hz)
4. Must be compact, and stylish (Like a Mac)
5. Somewhat upgradable (preferably by the manufacturer only, for even more profit later)
6. No monthly fee
7. Programming guide is totally optional, no nag screen for unsub customers.
8. Standard version has one tuner, Pro version has 2 tuner (can record 2 shows at the same time)

Any other features you would want?

I am not much a computer geek, but I know that this can be done. I can help you write a business plan and seek funding.

Thanks,
Charn Soranakom

Not a bad idea...

But it sounds like you are asking for capital from a bunch of beer-drinking, porn-loving, semi-professional part-time TiVo Hackers...

Needless to say, especially in this economy, we're not the most affluent group.

I don't think he's asking for capital; No, he's just looking for someone to do the coding while he makes the money.

Oh by the way embeem, I noticed the new signature. Is that some sort of compressed binary?

Making money? Yeah, but at least it is a legitimate biz.

How much does it cost to put together a relatively cheap PC and use the Hauppage WinTV/PVR?

Granted, perhaps some software work is needed... and hardware design so the case is nice and stylish...

And with lots of work you can achieve the level of a dish network pvr http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/tongue.gif
