My modem-fried standalone just took the 2.5 upgrade. Could I just rerun Chris Worley's tivonetfloppy script (since it uses insmod -f) to make it work again? Would I need to replace the kernel modules?

You can still run that script and it will work fine. The updated modules only benefit is you don't need to use -f.
