A while back there was a lot of interest in adding more RAM to the TiVo. Has anybody had any luck with this? Did it make a big difference?

Anyone tried to upgrade the processor?

Upgrading the processor would be impossible in my estimation.
I cant see how that would be done or even with what product.

However, I have a 32 MEG TiVo and its a bit more peppy, however, I think that I'll get the value of the AM after i upgrade the drives to larger ones.

I beleive thats what would work the RAM best.

I got tired of the long thread http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif basically, what is needed? just surface mount RAM chips and configuring the extra memory in the boot menu, or is there something else to it?

How about an FAQ on upgrading your TiVO's RAM http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

And is "a bit more peppy" worth the work you had to do to install it? Or the money you paid for the RAM?

I upgraded my RAM right before I received the 2.0 software. I've found that the box is certainly more "peppy". Before I did the RAM upgrade, it was slow coming out of live TV and moving around in menus. Very annoyingly so when it was processing a call. Now its quicker overall and I can't even tell when it makes its call.

It made a big difference to me. I find nothing more annoying than pressing a button, getting no reaction and then pressing it again only to have the device finally take action on both button presses...

So what type of RAM do you need, and how do you install it?

Has anyone tried pulling the extra RAM later to see if it causes any problems?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Well 2.0 significantly improved the overall responsiveness of my box. Did you throughly test the memory upgrade before receiving 2.0?? If not, you may be seeing some of the performance enhancement due to 2.0...
