DirecTivo DSR6000 Truly Awesome!

http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I can't begin to tell you all how bitchen this unit is! Being able to record two shows at the same time or be watching one while it records another is so cool! Setting up all your season passes is so much easier! The quality of the picture and sound is vastly improved no analog – straight digital! The only down side is the pokey clicker – its just not as responsive as the first ones! Anyway – if you all haven’t switched over – do so and do it now! I can’t wait to upgrade the hard drive when the warranty is up!

Got mine from www.minidishes.tv

Glad you liked it.. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

By the way, there were defective remotes shipped out with the original D-TiVos (actually many people report still getting them in all new philips d-tivo's) which were much slower then they should have been..

If you look at the channel change button on your remote and the word page appears on the rubber button itself, then you have an old remote.. Search around (here) for the correct numbers to get this remote replaced or call TiVo and they will give you a part number which you must call and give to philips..

You know, my free red remote for my standalones is slow too. Would that be the same problem?

I think so. IIRC, when those remotes came out it was discovered that they were using the same design/chipset which made the combo unit's remotes slow as well.

If it is slower than your original SA remote then that pretty much confirms it but AFAIK, there are no FAST colored remotes..

I have noted this "slow remote" problem mentioned on various threads and not paid much attention since my various remotes seem to all work equally well. Sure, the TiVo unit will be slow to respond every so often but I attribute that to catching it "at a bad time" and the delay doesn't happen again for days/weeks/months.

My RED remote (obtained via eBay) has "Chan Page" printed on the button. My CLEAR remote (from eBay) has just "Chan" there (but doesn't have Philips printed at the bottom end of the remote). My 2 DirecTV-TiVo Philips remotes both have "Chan Page" and both work fine, I think (although the picture sometimes takes a second to appear when changing tuners but isn't that just a function of satellite TV?).

So, I don't think ALL colored remotes are slow/defective. Guess I'm either lucky to have properly functioning remotes or perhaps am mentally matched to a bunch of slow remotes and just don't know it.

http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gifAbout the remotes! I read an article reviewing the DirecTivo unit and he felt the same about the remote (Don’t recall where I read it). The pokiness is not when the unit is thinking - its the responsiveness of the remote itself - the responsiveness of each click. Its just slower that the old clicker! I still use the old clicker by the way! And I use it through a RCA wireless transmitter in my office. You can really feel the difference! Even with the transmitter – the old remote is much better!

Question? Is the new remote defective or is it just a poorer quality remote! The new remote does have the Chan Page button – is this the defective remote?

My purple remote is faster than the original remote. Has anyone ever seen a defective remote come with a Phillips Tivo (not direct-tivo)

Another update - called 800-260-7032 - reported the problem they gave me a part # 483501557139 and an authorization number and told me to call 800-851-8885 to get a new remote! I should have it in a couple of days! COOL!

Thanks all and I hope this helps some others!

My slow red remote's indicator LED will flare momentarily before it starts pulsing. I will check my new DirecTiVo's remote to see if it flares as well (and try it out controlling my standalones) while I wait for dish installation.

Well I can definitely state that your 2 D-Tivo remotes are the slow ones.. And if the colored ones operate just the same as the D-TiVo ones, then they are slow as well..

The remotes with the "Chan Page" button are the bad ones! There is definitely a performance difference between the old non-DirecTivo remote and the new DirecTivo remote! Get them replaced - use the phone numbers above!

With the prompting of these 2 posts, I dug out my original SA Remote and reset it to the Remote Code assigned my first DSR6000 to perform a side-by-side comparison with the "Chan Page" remote that came with it. Initially, I didn't see any difference between the two until I tried to Search by Title and the "Chan Page" remote was noticeably slower when moving around the "ABCD.." table. Then I reset the original remote to my SA's Remote Code and found the same to be true when comparing it to my RED remote. The CLEAR remote just has "Chan" printed on the channel button and seems to work just as fast as the original black SA remote.

SO, I guess I'll trade in my DSR6000 remotes per the instructions in the above post. There's nothing to do about the RED one but luckily it isn't used as much now that I have two DSR6000's handling my Season Passes. Thanks for the info!
