Record One Event vs Season Pass

This is a bit of a newbie question. However, I have a season pass for Friends. But, I also heard good things about CSI. Absentmindedly, I searched for CSI in the title search and told TIVO to record just that one episode that it found. I didn't really look at the time since I have gotten out of that habit of worrying exactly when things come on, and instead have trusted TIVO to handle conflicts. So, tonight- -it records CSI and not Friends. In the recording history, it says Friends was not recorded because another show in the same time slot (read: CSI) had a higher priority. Long question to ask. . .do manual records automatically have higher priority than Season Passes and Wishlists? If so (which seems likely) then you would think that TIVO would have warned me about that or something.
Thanks.

How long before Thursday did you search for CSI and schedule it to record? The networks have moved things back due to the terrorist attacks, and some of the changes to the schedule (like Friends being tonight) could have arrived after you scheduled CSI.
To answer your question, yes, a single recording has a higher priority than a season pass. How mad would people be if something they specifically picked to record didn't record?
Your other question... yes, the Tivo will warn you that a previously scheduled show conflicts IF they data is in the Tivo for it to know that there is a conflict. The vast majority of the time, it is.

There should be a detective show called 'Johnny Monkey'. That way every week a criminal could say, "I ain't gonna get caught by no monkey," but then he would, and I don't think I'd ever get tired of that.</FONT s>

I have found it to be a good practice to check recording history and todo weekly to assure TiVo is doing what I want. Especially with these turbulent schedules and all the new shows I don't want to miss - Although they have been fairly disapointing.....

This may be a bit late, the CSI was on twice last night...a rerun at 8:00 and the season premier at 9:00 (it's normal time slot). I beleive Friends is on at either 8 or 8:30, isn't it? You should be able to get both CSI and Friends from here on out.
Ironically, if you had set up a season pass for CSI and put it lower than Friends, TiVo would have figured all of this out for you.

Try not. Do, or do not. There is no "try".

You all make good points. Definitely. I would be ticked if there was a manual recording that got nixed for a re-run, no matter how funny, of Seinfeld.
I actually kinda treated a commercial for CSI as my own "TIVOMATIC" and set up a manual record to make sure I got it, just to see what it was like. Did the same thing for The Agency.
Checking the "To Do" every so often would have been a wise move. One that I will start doing. I don't think I am tapping even part of the functionality of the unit. However, it is getting all of the Sportsnight's that come on Comedy Central- -so if for no other reason than that, I am a happy camper. Great show.
thanks again for the help
