TiVoNet, Serial Interfaces, and DBS units

Before I get into my question, let me thank everyone who has worked so hard to make upgrading TiVos so easy. In the last two days, I've added a 100G disk to my SVR-2000 standalone and a 120G to my T-60 DirecTiVo. Everything went smoothly and exactly according to the FAQ. Incredible!

Ok, the last phase in my upgrade streak is to add a TiVoNet interface to my SVR-2000. I've bought the complete $99 kit from 9th Tee, and it looks great. Before I jump in though, I've got a couple of questions:

- First, is the stuff by Chris Worley in /tivonet on version 2.6i of Kazymyr's boot CD the most current code available? Is it my best bet for adding the modules/apps that I need to activate the ethernet card?

- I've seen mention of the TiVoNet code working fine with 2.5 code, but no mention of 2.5.1. Any gotchas?

- I use the serial interface of my SVR-2000 to control my DirecTV receiver. When reading through the Worley install script, it seems to invoke a bash shell for the serial port by adding a line or two to the end of rc.sysinit. Do I need to comment these out after running the script (or just remove them from the script) to continue using the serial interface for controlling my DBS receiver? If so, what line/lines exactly need to be removed? Any downside to this (other than obviously not being able to get a shell on the serial port :-)

Thanks in advance on this. I know I could probably figure this all out myself with a bit of experimentation, but hey, with a knowledgeable group like this around, why burn your fingers :-)

Because burning your fingers builds character.

The TiVoNet modules haven't changed since they were first put online (other than to compile them for different versions of the kernel, which isn't necessary if you just force them to load)

2.5 == 2.5.1 for all practical purposes.

disable serial over bash to make your DBS over serial connection keep working. Before (modify install script) or after (undo the changes made by the install script) - your choice.

Hi,
This is a new post to an old thread, but I hope someone is still outthere getting notify's:

I have a DirecTivo SAT-T60 (sony)

1.) I actually need to use the Serial Port for changing channels on the DirectTV part of this unit (no TIVO stuff). Is it ready to go as-is?

There's actually a program called Snapstream (snapstream.com) that is a WinXP based PVR and it can get programs from a DirectTV receiver using a Serial Port Tuner.

2.) The T60 doesn't actually come with a serial cable (at least mine didn't). Will I be well served by getting the one sold on Tivo's web site?

Thanks!
:confused:
