third party tivo remotes?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Does anyone know of any third party tivo remotes that exist? I'm noticing that the base phillips one is somewhat lacking over time but I think it's really well designed overall. I'm just looking for a few more buttons, maybe some of them programmable but still with that nice tivo layout... Thanks for any help.

Im really not sure what you are talking about but the RCU810 Universal 8 Learning remote available at Best Buy and CC for ~$50 has the TiVo codes installed (in the VCR codes section). Unfortunately they do not have all the buttons installed so you must use the learning feature to add the TiVo Button, Thumbs, instant replay, and a few others. This is an excellent inexpensive learning remote however could use some additional memory.

Im not sure what you mean by wanting exta buttons ? The TiVo remote already has the buttons for basically everything TiVo can do (except would like the Philips standby button from the AT&T remote or at least access to learn it). But a learning remote will give you more buttons you can program to control other devices such as the TV, AV Receiver, DVD etc.. and create macros (such as to power all your devices up, or down) if thats what you are referring to.

Yeah, I mainly mean extra buttons for things like built in dvd or maybe a video mode selector button for the tv and such. Yeah, I really can't think of any extra buttons the tivo would need for extra tivo functionality, it's just that right now I have a digital cable remote sitting out all the time just so I can switch to video 1 and video 2. Thanks for the pointer though.

Since you're posting to the Underground, this should be right up your alley. Get a OneForAll Cinema 7 remote. Upgrade it with Tivo codes using a JP1 interface . Requires a few bucks worth of parts and some VERY basic soldering.

Oh yeah, there are lots of remotes that have the JP1 connector. I just like the Cinema 7 the best. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

OR take the plunge and spend more time and money "hacking" away at designing and modifying your custom UI on a Phillips PRONTO (I'm still working on mine 2 years later)
www.pronto.phillips.com

But for the real scoop on many remotes, check
www.remotecentral.com

There are very good in depth reviews posted as well as config files for some of these high end remotes.
