Saving Tivo Content to MPEG
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was looking for a way to archive important television shows and documentaries to MPEG.
I did not want to do the Tivo hack to put an ethernet card in my unit to make it networkable.
I have a Dazzle Video Creator. Basically I use the RCA output from the Tivo as input into the Dazzle unit. (Just as you would connect to a VCR)
I save the video in MPEG1 format and then burn the contents to CD-Rs.
One day Tivo will come out with a networkable unit. But in the mean time this works for me.

If you have a DVD player, you can burn the MPEGs as a VCD and easily play back the material on your DVD player/TV.

Just make sure you have a DVD player capable of playing CDR's. Lots will play CDRW's, but less will play CDR's. Chances are it won't play either unless you spent over $200 - 225.

rebarr, I have also done this, but I do not think my CD-Rs will play in a cheap DVD player. Do you know if there is a way to take my type of CD-R and convert it into a type that will play in an inexpensive DVD player?

You will need Nero or Adaptec EZCD to write a VCD (Video CD).
Try this to find a DVD that will play them.

My $100 Raite 711 DVD will play CDR VCD's but my $350 Sony will not. My lesson is not to buy Sony.
I also have a APEX 600a that will play VCD and the new SVCD.
I have not been able to burn a SVCD yet but the premade ones look great.
