Wishlists influence TiVo selections (bad idea?)

I've noticed that TiVo started choosing to record some new programming right after I set up a couple of wishlists. I had a wishlist for "Comedy" and another for "Mystery/Thriller". The next day, I was getting lots of random crime documentaries and The Jeffersons. Ugh! These were just TiVo suggestions, but still... just because I want to search on a topic doesn't mean I have a strong preference for everything matching that topic.

It is possible to create wishlists, but not have those wishlists influence your TiVo suggestions. I believe you need to check some items on your wishlist screen.

The most likely thing is that you manually selected to record items found by the wishlists, which auto-thumbed those genres. Even if you removed the auto-thumb, a "zero thumbs" is higher than "never thumbed." A simple thumbs down on the offending programs should fix things.

I did not select the auto-record option, or if I did I quickly disabled it.

Interesting point about zero-thumbs vs never-thumbed. Sounds like a bad GUI design if there is hidden preference information for which you can't undo your changes, i.e. I can never revert a category back to the never-thumbed state. Messing around a little and then putting things back the way they were when you started should be a no-op.
