Recommendations to buy a TiVo

HI
My wifes says she NEEDS a TiVo with lots of storage. Can someone please tell me which TiVo unit to buy and which hard drive I should get to boost the capacity.
I have read over the "How to" on upping the capacity, but since I don't have any hardware yet I though it best to ask what is easiest.
TIA

Well, you can:
1. Replace the original drive with a bigger one
2. Add an second drive
3. #1 and #2
So, if you want to get the maximum amount of space, buy a small Tivo (20 hour) (or if you find a 30 hour cheaper get that), replace the first drive with a 100 GB drive, and add an additional 100 GB drive.
If you don't need that much space, just do #1 or #2.

Well, your wife (or wives http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif ) is right. She does. I believe the prevailing attitude in the underground, etc. is to buy as small a capacity as possible (used 14hr or openbox 20 hour to save money) and then buy a 60GB, 80GB or bigger additional drive.
Search the underground for things like 80GB and Maxtor for the last 30 days to find out the prevailing prices. I still recommend staples.com because of their pricematching and the easy availability of dollars-off coupons on the web. You might do a search for staples.com or staples or www.staples.com in the underground also.
It's good that your wife saw the light!
Remember, though, in NYC if you have a view of the Southern sky, you may choose to go with a DirecTV with TiVo receiver for $99. That gives you around 35 hrs and you can upgrade from there.
Welcome in advance. And don't get discouraged by the long setup time. Once you get through it, you'll love it.
