recording quality on DirectTivo?

In browsing the messages, I've seen references to quality settings for recording. I have the DSR6000 (DirecTV) and don't see anything in the book or menus about quality, so I'm guessing that there is no choice. Probably because it's a digital recording. Is that correct or am I missing something?

No choice. Everything is recorded in BEST quality. So if you have a 30 hour TIVO, You have 30 hours of BEST Quality recording - as opposed to a 30 Hour standalone, which only has about 9 hours of best(& 30 hours at crap quality). Crap quality...that is a setting, right?

That brings up another question: what size hard drive is in the Philips DSR6000? (in MB, I mean)

From the TIVO HACK FAQ:

DSR6000 - 35 hour variable, Direct TV with Tivo Servi
- 2 Hard Drives with 2.0 software
I would assume each drive is around a 15 - 18 gig. Just a guess. I think that because it doesn't have to convert analog to digital that the same drive space can record at best for dtivo, that it would take for basic on a Stand alone. The single drive 30 hour stand alones have a 30 gig drive.

I decided to answer my own question. I opened up my DSR6000. It has a single 40GB Quantum lct20 hard drive.

Based on what I've read in other forum postings, this is not entirely accurate. The Tivo records a 100% perfect copy of the DirecTV signal it receives, but since that signal is Variable Bit-Rate encoded (ie, the compression changes based upon the program content) it doesn't directly map to any one of the standalone Tivo quality settings.
