Check Recording History Once A Week!
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Some people may not be aware of this, but recording history, not only tells you things that weren't recorded, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, it tells you things that won't be recorded. Go to To-Do list, and above all to-do items is "Recording History" click on it. Check for future recordings for shows that you might want to record, but are listed as "Won't record". See why and resolve the problem. I find it helpful to check this once a week, or once every 2 weeks.

I couldn't agree more... Well I guess I could, I don't think a day goes by that I don't look at what I now call the FUTURE HISTORY http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif I've caught several problems before they were problems in the future! It is my understanding that one use to be able to open the back door and enable history logging of suggestions. I'm not sure if 2.5.1 allows this or not.

Wow, is that a 'Foundation' reference? Been awhile since I've read that, might be time...

Yeah, Recording History is great, except when history gets omitted. Strangest things have happened to me. Two Sundays ago, Enterprise was supposed to record. Never got recorded, no record of it in Recording History. Yet there it is in my Season Passes.
Then this past Sunday. Alias is in my Season Passes. It actually was at the bottom of my Season Passes. But what did i happen to see taping in its time slot? Law and Order: Criminal Intent. (Which i do *not* have a Season Pass for.) And what logo was in next to it in Now Showing as it was recording? Tivo Suggestion! I let it go though, since a friend was already Tivoing Alias, and since I do like L&O: CI. However, when i went back the next day to see what the heck happened, for some reason, the suggestion was missing (could've been a space issue), and neither the suggestion, *nor* Alias were in the Recording History.
Now, i had accidentally forgotten to startup IP Masquerading on my PPP connection that i update over, so it had missed two days worth of daily calls. But i can't see why that would've made it miss recording a Season Pass.
Oh, and it *did* record Enterprise at 7pm, and The Practice at 10pm. It's just Alias at 9pm that was strangely missing.

Notyou, sorry to hear about your recording disaster. One thing I ALWAYS do, is once I have a season pass in, I then do a check on the 'View Upcoming Episodes' to see that the proper ones are checked. More than once I've had to resolve a conflict problem. Also, it's not a bad idea to take a look in the To-Do list to make sure what you think is going to happen is what TiVo thinks it should do http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif
As for the disappearing L&O recording, it only takes an innocent channel change, and without warning, TiVo will stop recording a suggestion, removing any remnant in the Now Playing list AND leave no trail in the History log! Wonder if this could have happened in your case?

BTW, if a season pass is "First Run Only" and it doesn't schedule something because it doesn't think it's "First Run" material, then it will NOT show up in the Recording History, because according to the Tivo's thinking, that show doesn't match the parameters of the Season Pass.

Unless it originally thought it did match the "First-run only" criteria, but then the guide data was updated identifying it as not a first-run episode, whereupon it will say that it won't be recorded because you edited the Season Pass or Wishlist that originally selected it.
Or at least that was the behavior under 2.0.1. I haven't investigated this condition under 2.5.1 yet.

Same result I believe in 2.5x.

I had a strange recording problem this past weekend as well. Enterprise was scheduled to record on Wednesday, and when I checked during the timeslot, it was recording and appeard in the "Now Playing" list with the red dot. However, later that evening when I went to watch it, it was gone. Not only that, but the Saturday repeat of the episode suddenly appeared in the to-do list and was recorded.
Maybe I will go and check the logs as suggested here.
