I Love My TiVo But.............

Hi, Has anyone else noticed that it becomes very frustrating when trying to channel surf using the TiVo Channel UP/DOWN buttons when attatched to a Sky DigiBox?

I Have a Panasonic Receiver and thus used the Panasonic FAST Codes which work ok, except the digits are BLASTED one at a time. This is ok if you are switching from say 106 to 647 for example but a real pain when you wat to go from say 301 to 302 to 303 etc.

Am I Missing something??

I realise that in time TiVo will help me with not having to surf so much, but in the mean time...old habbits die hard!

Thanks in advance....

Tony

I'll be in the same boat as you (if/when my Tivo ever arrives) - because I get Sky Digital too. So I'd be interested to know - can you just go back to using the old Sky remote for high-speed channel-hopping? Or does the Tivo insist on taking control of the satellite receiver, making the old remote redundant?

Another question for Sky owners.

If you Tivo is recording Sky, what happens if someone tries to change the station on the digibox while the recording is going on??

I suppose you get the 2nd show recorded do you??

Time to make a "Do Not Touch The Digibox" sign?? http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/wink.gif

Nothing stops you channel hopping with your original remote, no. As far as I can see there are no side effects - the maximum problem is that TiVo would think it was on a different channel and would name any instant recording with the wrong title. No biggie.

The delay is from the encoding/decoding process, it takes a second for the video signal to pass through.

I have overcome this tendency to flip between channels, it was a force of habit as I hated watching commercials. I use the Live TV guide, it allows you to see your program through the guide and see what is on at the same time. One thing I used to hate about flipping through channels is that I would come across alot of programs that I had no interest in, it wasted my time. With the Live TV Guide you see whats on quickly and dont miss anything while you are doing so. I have always flipped channels furiously fast, with TiVo I no longer have a need. Watching more programs from Now Showing will also negate the need to "channel surf". Why search for something good on live TV when you already know that you have good programs saved on your TiVo. You will soon come to realize that there is little need to surf. You're not missing anything, if you were TiVo would be recording it.
