Problems with remote in 1.5.2-A24-001-023

Last night whilst watching recorded Eastenders I was unable to control the TiVo. The program finished (not recording) and no key presses would work. LED on remote flashed and TiVo Green led changed colour in response to remote keypresses but no response.
Eventually the recording finished and the TiVo offerred delete or do nothing, TiVo responded very sluggishly to remote and eventually returned to the now playing menu. After a brief "further faff" of going slow the TiVo recovered and has been fine and responsive ever since ?
Any thoughts ?

Try changing the batteries. A number of people have complained that their batteries take a while to get going, after which they seem ok.
The batteries that come with the TiVo seem especially poor.

Had new batteries !

The problem almost certainly is with the remote batteries. Are the replacement batteries cheap ones by any chance? Just because a battery has the same number on it does not mean it is as good!
As you are non-technical, let me try to explain simply why cheap batteries are a bad idea:
A remote control works by sending out a series of Infra red pulses in a sort of "morse code". As these pulses have to travel quite a distance they have to be fairly "bright" and use lot of battery power to produce. Cheap batteries are not as good at supplying the power needed to produce these bright pulses.
As the batteries run low, the brightness of these pulses drop. This means that it is more difficult for the TiVo to "see" the "morse code".
Also, a drop in battery power would probably mean that the pusles would be produced more slowly, making it harder for the TiVo to understand.
After being heavily used, cheap batteries need a longer time to recover their full strength-maybe this is why your remote recovered after a period of time?
I would recommed Duracells as these recover much more quickly. Hope this helps!
