PACELink DigiMemo

Ordered a DigiMemo on Tuesday, arrived today and it does what it says on the tin i.e. switches your (anybrand) Digibox back on after a power cut or a software upload & reset. Check out www.pacelink.co.uk
Not cheap at £49 but it does the job. You can go away for a couple of weeks without worrying about the Digibox being switched off and TiVo not recording anything.
You have to set a single "favourite channel" on the Digibox and it is this channel that the dongle returns you to. It's connected to, and powered by, the RF2 socket.
TiVo_Ted: Talking of gizmos that connect to the RF2 socket, I remember you did some market research a while back to see if there was interest in a TiVo dongle that controlled the Digibox that way. Any news on this? Is it being designed?

P.S. Although they call themselves PACELink UK, and make liberal use on their website of the Pace logo, they're really called Kesh Electronics (Sat Sys) Ltd. and don't seem to be related to Pace Micro Technology PLC, the box manufacturers.

Ah, that fooled me, I couldn't figure out why Pace were selling something to correct a "feature" of their own equipment.

The burning question is what do we do when TiVo offer the RF2 dongle. Will it work with the Digimemo, maybe with a "Y" adapter?

I think you will find is that the Tivo Dongle will have a loop out, or I hope it will be as I feed the UHF2 around the rest of my house so I can change channel in any room.
Also a standard off the shelf splitter will not work as there are resistors in line which may affect the dc out or the modulated remote codes input.

UPDATE: The DigiMemo doesn't set the Digibox back into PIN 8 / widescreen switching mode, so anything widescreen recorded by TiVo will appear "pillarbox" style (anamorphic). http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/frown.gif Still, better than missing programmes! You can expand the output by selecting the appropriate widescreen option on your TV, but one of the cool TiVo features is that it usually records the correct widescreen setting along with the program.
(Have emailed PACElink to find out why this happens.)

I have tested the DigiMemo and it does switch the box back on - almost immediatly after a power cut or after being put into standby.
It actually switches the box on by sending a SKY commend and selects your favourite channel. If you have more than one favourite then it will select the next one in the list.
It connects to the RF2 socket on a Digibox and this is where the problem regarding the SCART switching arises.
A SKY command via the IR will switch the box on and set PIN-8 active - A SKY command via RF2 will only switch the box on and does not set PIN8 active. It is the same if you are using Sky's TVLink.

A Y Adapter should work checking the voltages with a TVLink device a Y connector seems to pass enough voltage to the other leg. By the way TV Link does not pass the voltage but they do make multi-way adapters.

I see it connects to RF2. Does this mean you can't have a 2nd TV connected using the Sky DigiLink?

I haven't tried it with both yet - but if you split the co-ax it should work - most commercial splitters have resistors which is a problem
