Panasonic Digibox Crashes - Response

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi all,

Sorry if some of you have already tried this method..

My Panasonic Digibox constantly reboots (see previous messages). However, today I thought rather than continue trying to contact SKY or Watchdog (who don't appear interested - Has anyone had a response ?) I thought I would contact Panasonic. Within two hours I received the following:

Thank you for your e-mail.

Panasonic, along with other manufacturers, are working closely with Sky on this matter, which has only arisen since the latest software download by Sky. The situation is not limited in any way to Panasonic set top boxes and at this moment there is no resolution.

Our current recommendation is for consumers not to pay for an engineer to visit, as the set top box is not faulty and try to select channels from the EPG rather than keying numbers directly.

Once Sky have formulated a resolution they will perform another invisible download which, should cure the problem.

Kind regards,
Customer Support

------

I know this doesn't fix the problem - but at least Panasonic are working with sky to resolve the issue - and telling customers to not pay the 50 pounds !!.

I'm quite impressed with Panasonics customer support !! especially responding to my query within a couple of hours (even if it is probably a standard response).

I must be lucky but, my Panasonic Box (Model 30) has the latest EPG software, but it hasn't crashed once....

The problems seem to manifest themselves differently in versions of the same make of box and that maybe why it is taking a while to fix. It probably worked OK on the test boxes they used.
My DBS30 pani has also had no problems (very early one) but lots do. Nice to see they are trying to get it sorted. I could not believe that sky were charging 50 pounds for a call out just to try and fix a software problem that the engineer could not do. Are sky customer services being told the whole story? I doubt it as usual!

Well - I think I've found a solution for my Panasonic box - it used to reboot at least once a day but since I did this, it's never rebooted. 5 days without reboot now.

Unfortunately it's not the best solution in the world...

I've removed Sky One from my channel list and also removed (and cancelled) all of Sky's film channels. The box would only reboot if I went to one of these channels.

Annoying - this means that whenever I want to watch/record something from Sky One I have to do it manually as the box will reboot when I change to Sky One (using any method of channel change).

As mentioned in previous threads, my old black Panasonic box reboots without fail when I change to Sky One (106) and a couple of other known channels once it's been on a channel which has an interactive element, even if I don't access the interactive service.

I guess my 5 day record will fail tonight when I change over to Sky One to watch Voyager :-(
