Would I be crazy to tivo the tivo guy?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Gai-jin

Anyone done this?

My son has just gotten to the point where he recognizes the tivo guy everywhere... my little stuffed tivo, my tivo static sticker on my truck, my tivo blanket, and, most importantly, the tivo animation. Now, he wants to see the tivo animation ALL the time. I'm considering connecting one tivo to another and tivoing a sequence of tivo animations playing over and over and over for a half hour or so, just to entertain him. Am I nuts?

LOL... You know what, this happened to me too! My 2 year old points out the TiVo logo everywhere it appears.. On the recorder, on TV, on my computer when I visit this forum... He calls them "guys." http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Look those guys!" "I want see guy on TV" "I want see guys on poodoo" He especially loves the spinning Guys that appear on the index page to this forum. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I say go for it!

No but your son will be....

My 28 month old isn't too excited about the TiVo animation, he does like the THX movie intro "Here comes the movie" he says excitedly. AND he knows that when it is time for him to watch TV, he can watch whatever program he wants (From the short list of those he knows about.
First his favorite was Teletubbies, next Crocodile Hunter, next Zobomofoo, then Elmo (i,e, Sesame Street), now it is Rollie Polie Olie. (Tivo managed to show him that last one when it changed channels to record a suggestion - ARGH) He does pick from his past favorites occasionally so the season passes I keep for him keep growing!

I boycott teletubbies and barney, based soley on the fact that anything that weird and yet that popular must be evil. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif Olie is my son's favorite as well, though he also really likes Out of the Box, which is a show I actually like him watching, it's more on the educational lines than some of the others...

My 20-month old son was initially afraid of the stuffed TiVo guy we have.

Now, he points out the TiVo guy everywhere he sees it. "Daddy, Tica Guoy".

It gets worse - my four year old wants to be TiVo Guy for Halloween. I had to make a costume. :-)

I'd like to see a thread where different families post a picture of their kid(s) in a TiVo-person costume (homemade I presume since no official kit can be bought) done for Halloween, but I'd understand if people did not want to do this for privacy reasons.

Another revenue opportunity for TiVo -- Halloween costumes. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll upload a picture in a day or so. I was intending to send one to TiVo anyway and submit him as "customer of the month." He does look pretty cute! I can't wait to take him out trick-or-treating and see what kind of reactions he gets. "Are you a spaceman, little boy?" "No, I'm TiVo Guy!"

If it makes him happy, then go for it.

I'm looking forward to your son's picture as TiVo guy. And I certainly think that should qualify him/you as customer of the month!

Of course, TiVo Guy has no arms. This should make for some interesting "trick or treating"! Who is going to hold his treat bag? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Let me get this straight - you find Barney and Teletubbies wierd, but you think Rollie Polie Olie is...normal? Olie gives me the creeps. At least Teletubbies can remind me of my college days. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif Oh, never mind.

Just give him the remote and show him how to press the '0' button. Get him started with the remote and soon he'll be setting up his own season passes, assuming he doesn't dump juice all over it first...

BluesFools (whose 2-year-old likes 2 things on TiVo: the "TiVo Guy" and the Brunnen-G war song from Lexx. No, I have no idea why!)

Along the same lines, I record shows on my and my parents DTiVo for my three year old sister. I got tried of selecting a new show every time she wants to watch something else. So I just taught her how to use the TiVo. She got all excited when I told her by being able to use a TiVo, she could test out of Space School http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif. Just rember if you do teach your child to use the TiVo, dont be surprised if you hear the Rolie Polie Olie them song at 4 in morning, or if the channel changes during the middle of a football game.

Nope your not crazy.

My two and a half year old son loves TiVo! He also always points out TiVo and since I worked at the TiVo call center for almost 2 years we have a bunch of TiVo swag.

Corbin (my son http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) almost has one of our two TiVo's almost to himself.
The only shows that have 3 thumbs-up on TiVo 1 are
Rolie Polie Olie , Out of the Box , Caillou , Doug and Movies my wife and I want to watch but ones we will not commit to record so they also get 3 thumbs!
Suggestions rule!
