Hot news from the land of TiVo hacking!

Ok not had chance to read through all the docs or posts on this one but it would appear that the latest util from Tiger can make TiVo backups really small AND divorce two disc setups into a one disc setup that can then be remarried!

Check out this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum6/HTML/006904.html

Or if you can't wait grab the files and readme: http://www.9thtee.com/tivoupgrades.htm

Apparently works on UK boxes.

I'll let you know - I pick up my 80Gb drive on Saturday and this weekend I shall try to backup AND restore straight from a dual drive Tivo to a single drive (includes free divorce, no intermediate staging required) and then TivoMad in the extra space, with the possibility of another drive in the future to keep it company....I can't wait!!

Been folowing this discussion over on Underground looks very interesting. I'm not sure this is for the new user yet but it would be mighty easy for someone to wrap it all up on a boot disk and make it really easy.

I have upgrded 2 Tivo's using Dylan and TivoMad and it is really easy (really it is) the hardest part is making the backup of the original disk.

Hopefully this tool when wrapped up for new users will make it even easier.

If you are thinking of upgrading and have a spare PC on which to perform the task I would highly recommed it - a small amount of UNIX/linux knowledge will help but otherwise it is basic understanding of PC architecture and following the instructions carefully.

Have fun.

Damn!! Ebuyer sent me a dud hard drive! It just buzzes VERY loudly and fails most diagnostics....Looks like it'll be a little while longer b4 I do the upgrade...

Looks like I'll have to continue deleting programs for a while longer...

Another very good crip sheet for upgrading can be found at:
http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/

It takes it from a new users position and seems to go through the steps sensibly (and reminds you about the things that got me the second time around when I used an old Quantum drive).
