I apologize if I've missed something in the FAQ, however..
The only Quantum drives my dealer sells are the following. Will the 4400 RPM drive work - and is EIDE / ULTRA-ATA/66 okay?

Quantum:
----------
30GB EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 *4400RPM* 3.5LP FIREBALL LCT15

15.40GB EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 *5400RPM* 3.5LP FIREBALL LCT

20.5GB EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 3.5LP *7200RPM* 2MB FIREBALL PLUS LM
30.0GB EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 3.5LP *7200RPM* 2MB FIREBALL PLUS

Maxtor:
----------
30GB EIDE ULTRA-DMA/66 3.5LP 7200RPM 9MS
30GB EIDE ULTRA-DMA/66 3.5LP 5400RPM

Thanks in advance!

Someone said they had tried the 4400rpm quantum and it worked. I wouldnt go that route though, i'd use a basic 5400rpm maxtor or western digital. I was contemplating staying with the quantum lct's thinking that would make me 'look like' the actual 60 hour when it came out, presuming it would use a pair of lct10's, but quantum has discontinued the lct10 and tivo has said they planned to 'change disk drives' with the 60 hour model, without disclosing whether that meant a change of drive or a change of manufacturer...its entirely possible they plan to migrate to the 4400rpm units.

I wouldnt bother with the 7200rpm drives, in general they're more expensive, hotter and draw more power from tivo's tiny power supply - there are exceptions to every one of these 'rules', but in general thats the case, and tivo doesnt seem to benefit from the speed increase.

Of the list you supplied, the maxtor 5400 looks to be a good choice, the ultra-dma/66 is not a problem, i dont know whether tivo uses it (frankly i doubt it) but the udma66 drives are backward compatible with udma33 and prior eide standards.

And no need to apologize. Frankly i'm fed up with seeing people get jumped on because they didnt read 5 faq's and scan 3000 messages in the archives before posting a question - most new people dont even know where the faq's are (who reads every icon on a web site?)or how to go about a search of the archives. Its appropriate to steer people to a doc that will answer their question, but i dont like it when folks are made to feel uncomfortable about having asked a question that was already answered in some obscure post somewhere.

Welcome to the tivo community!

For what its worth, I decided to upgrade my TiVo and had decided to stay with the Quantum drives. After searching for the LCT10 to no avail, I ordered two LCT15 drives .. a 15gig and 30gig. Both are now operating in my TiVo. I just finished the upgrade this morning, but have not noticed any problems with it.

what are the prices like on those, better than the old 5400 lcts?

If you are looking for the Quantum LCT10 drives, take a look at:
http://www.gogocity.com
try this link: http://www.gogocity.com//product_de...0JP42PFC40U3V7E

They are $128. I ordered two and they weren't excatly quick on getting it shipped out, it took about 3 days before it left. But they do have them in stock, and the price is reasonable.

I completed upgrading my 14 hour Philips tivo to a 69 hour machine the other day using 2 quantum LCT15 30g drives...It worked like a charm...No problems at all...I cloned the A: drive from another 30 hour single drive tivo (LCT10) that I also own. Both have legit life time subscriptions.
