108hr 15minute Tivo Completed!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone! I just completed a new Tivo (I previously had a 30hour tivo).
My new Tivo has 108hr and 15minutes available. I backed up the vigin drive that came with it and it stored in a 561kb file! Unbelievable. It took about 2 minutes. I was shocked the file size was so small that I did it twice. Each time it was the same size. Believe it or not, this drive even has the factory demo on it. I'm not sure how it was able to compress into a file that small...
My new Tivo was:
$399.99
-$100.00 rebate from Tivo
$ 2.49 bumpers
$269.99 60GB DiamondMax drive
==================================
$572.47 + tax
But the best part is now I have an image of a 30GB drive to use with my old tivo (it was a dual drive 30 hour). So I can upgrade it with a Quantum 30GB drive and another 60GB DiamondMax for another 108 hours. Wow, now I'll have 216 hours and 30 minutes!
Has anyone yet completed a 75GB IBM Deskstar upgrade? I'm wondering what the largest Tivo is to date.
Again, thanks everyone.

I don't believe you have a good backup. With the factory demo stuff, it should have compressed to around 2.8GB. Don't shoot the messenger . . .

I have to agree with the second poster.... your backup didn't work.
My Virgin ( never even plugged in the TiVo before I removed the drive )
14 hour TiVo backup was around 3 Gig and took several hours to backup
and restore.

Hmmmm. I figured it couldn't be possible. But I did type exactly what it said - twice. Not sure what could have gone wrong. There were no errors, but it did say 9+1 files converted (or something like that).
Looks like I won't be able to upgrade my original Tivo now. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/frown.gif

I have to concur that you don't have a good backup, in fact, I'm betting you have a locked drive. That would explain what you saw with the short but consistent backups.
On the bright side, though, as long as you have the two units, you can always clone both drives on the 108 hr and put them into the other unit, but this time, of course, you'd unlock the drive first! http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif
You might also check out the post regarding "ideturbo"; this seems to be the key to the whole locked drive thing. Just search for "ideturbo".
