Mounting 2nd drive

Guess this should really be labeled connecting second drive....
Just wanted to say that I was able to install two drives using a
standard ATA66 ( 80 wire ) cable by mounting the A drive upside
down. I folded the wires in such a way that the drive connectors
were in line and as far apart as they could be. This meant that
one of the connectors was upside down. I just installed the drive
that way. I didn't want to have to 'shred' the cable so that I could
mount both drives right side up.
I still ended up using cable ties and LRF to secure the drives, but
I was able to use a good, standard drive cable. I also used a Y
splitter to do the power.

I'm not sure I understand why you had to mount a drive upside down. Does the inside of your TiVo look substantially different than most? I have posted pictures of a "typical" upgrade at the following URL, where you'll see how most people are mounting the second drive: to the left of the original drive, in the same orientation, without any fancy cable work needed... Is this possibly just a result of different connector configurations on your new ATA66 cable? So far, I haven't seen a need to replace the stock cable.
Anyway, my pictures are at http://www.lemkeville.org/steve/tivohack/

On an ATA66 cable, the A and B connectors are 6 inches apart. You can't
( I couldn't at least ) just plug it into the B drive and then have it reach over to the A drive. I'd guess that your cable had a longer spacing
between the connectors. I wanted to use the ATA66 cable becuase it is
supposed to have better shielding.
