Can all TiVo's be upgraded?

I notice people with signature lines stating 2.5.1, if I purchase a low end 20hour Phillips, can I still update the firmware?

When you say upgraded, do you mean just getting the latest and greatest version of the TiVo software? If so, yes. This is a fundamental part of the TiVo service.

If you mean upgraded with more storage for increased recording capacity, you should head over to the TiVo Underground and start reading.

If you subscribe to the service (or possibly if you don't) once the box calls in for its daily update it will "see" what version of software you have and then upgrade to 2.5.1 all by itself at some point therafter. If you have any questions concerning hacking the box, check out the "Underground" Forum.
