Help -- Back-Up poblem....

I just picked up my second TiVo, and since I didn't back up my first one I thought I'd do it now. I was following the directions in the TiVo Hack, using Dylan's boot disk. I have the TiVo disk plugged into the Secondary IDE port and have tried several disks as the primary (C http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif drive. The TiVo is a virgin 1.2 so it should be small. I keep getting an error message about "xaa- out of space" or something of that sort. I thought I might be out of space on my C: drive so I tried a new 4.6G and a new 15G, both failed. One thing I did notice was that the busy light on the TiVo drive was active during the time the process was running, but the C: drive did not have any activity, then the error message. Shouldn't there have been some activity on the C: drive before the error message? Any input?

Exactly what sequence of commands did you go through in Linux? Were you able to "mount" the DOS drive successfully?

Matt, watch the messages that scroll by as you boot up from Dylan's boot disk. With your TiVo disk connected as master on the secondary IDE connector, you should see /dev/hdc get recognized. You don't mention how your backup disk is connected, but do you see any other disks get recognized at boot time? (As /dev/hdb, if connected as slave on the primary IDE connector, or as /dev/hdd, if connected as slave on the secondary IDE connector.)

Without that, you have no recognized drive to backup to.

Thanks for the input. I did check and both drives are mounting. I discovered my problem, I was mistyping the command line. I had tried it about 7 times last night, but it was late. I tried it again today and it worked on the second try. One thing that I think is strange is the the back up file is about 2.8M. it's a virgin 1.2 dated 9 of '99 on the back so I would think it should be small. Oh well, it's only 5 CDR's not too bad. I Blessed a 30G I picked up at Sam's and I am all set. Thanks to everyone here!

Is that gigabytes with an "M" or gigabytes with a "G" http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif
