Ok, so my TiVo, presumably since upgrading to 1.3, boots/runs off /hda4. When I tried my upgrade, I edited the config files on /hda7, as instructed. I assumed the two partitions were identical copies.

Well, when I was having the "TiVo crashes after nightly phone call" problem, I thought that perhaps I had some corrupt software. So, I get into the boot PROM, and instruct it that its new home is /hda7 instead.

System booted fine, but boy, were things screwed up. All the menus were wrong, and it just didn't want to run very much at all. So:

1) When I copied the contents of the original Quantum drive to the new Maxtor A drive, was the copy somehow bad?
2) Is the redundant ext2 partition not a copy of the running partition?
3) Is there some flooby-whasis dependency in partition 10 re: which ext2 partition you booted from?
4) Something I didn't think of?

Which raises a related question:

After doing a "dd" to make a disk image, is there anything laying around on Dylan's disk that would allow me to burn another six hours, doing a verify operation?
