Ordered drives, bracket, and checked tool box for Torx.
Saturday ran full read and write diagnostics on new Maxtor 60. Took hours.
Sunday started main project and found what I thought were Torx were XCELITE SCRULOX, whatever the h___ they are for. Drove all over town but no #10 Torx (One store had #15 and #20, auto parts store had many big ones).
Rooted thru the toolbox and found a "hex and spline key wrench set". One of the spline keys fit the screws just fine.
Finished the project without incident and now have 91+ hours.
Used the original cable with the "A" drive on the end connector. On the new drive set AMSET to /fast and set WVSET to /off.
Have seen no "stuttering" so far.
Thanks to all who made this upgrade possible. I would like to make a modest contribution to them but cannot find the message where their e-mails were posted so I can use PayPal. Any help would be appreciated.

hows the noise level at 'fast' compared to the tivo with just the original quantum? louder? annoying? can you only hear it with the tv off? how far do you have to get away from it before the sound drops off?
I've set mine to 'off' and havent put it in the new 14 hour yet (waiting for it...come ON ups man...). if theres no problems with fast and it reduces the noise vs off i may reset this one. or if i feel adventurous i may try it both ways and see if i can hear any difference.

The Fast setting is about the same, maybe a slight bit louder, but I didn't notice.

I have not noticed anything audible but I will listen closely tonight with the sound muted.

I listen very close to the unit and can barely hear the drives.
