Help. I'm new to exploring my tivo. I can get to the bash prompt and to the factory diagnostics, but I can't figure what to do when I get their. The few linux commands I know seem to have little effect on the machine Although once I did manage to kill it. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/wink.gif Can anybody give a few step by step pointers to get me started. The faq is great on the general but skips the specific

Well, I'm no linux expert (duh!) but it might help if you gave some indication what you were trying to accomplish! http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/rolleyes.gif

I would like to start off with the basics: turn off rewind after fast forward, enable the backdoors, etc... I see the commands that I need to enter. The only problem is that I can't tell were to enter them. At the bash prompt I cannot enter any commands (ls, joe, cd....)so I cannot even find the/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit file in order to change it. The diagnostics screen does not seem very intuitive (could be why I deleted the path to the boot partition) I can move around the drive using the boot disk but once its back in the box I become an idiot!

I had the same problem and posted, asking for help.

Within a few minutes, several very helpful people put
me on the road to success.

Thanks for the help. It was just what I was looking for. It seems like it would be a great idea to put links to those threads in the faq
