Backup only question

If you buy a 2nd identical drive SOLELY FOR A VIRGIN BACKUP, would it work just doing a Disk Copy (or Drive Copy)? Those programs don't care what is on the drive, they copy data whether it knows what it is or not. In theory, it should work (and it's fast). Has anyone tried it though?

A lot of programs don't recognize the partition type that tivo
uses so they won't copy them.

AND virgin backups are only a concern if you are trying to compress them. For a full drive-to-drive backup, the source drive's virginity is irrelevant.

Except whatever it did to lose its virginity, it must have been pre-marital. You want to make your backup pre-consummation.

Dylan's boot disk and dd work very well and don't require that much effort.
If you do use the full disk backup I would actually use the thing for a few days/week to make sure the modem works, no stuttering, etc.
You must make the backup before adding the second drive. I run off of the backup and the original is sitting on my shelf.

Well, as usual, virginity has nothing to do with marriage! http://sam.wood.tripod.com/smilies/emb.gif
