New Tivo on the way?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was at the store ready to buy a second Tivo (DESPITE frustration with the lexus ads) -- and the salesman told me to hold off because there is a new Tivo model coming out early next year. He says they are clearing out their inventory to prepare for this.

Does anyone have news on this? -- or know what might be in the new models?

The only "new TiVo" that's been revealed to us is based on what you can buy now as the "AT&T Broadband" version - bigger hard disk, "value-engineered" to be lower cost to produce, and with USB ports. The indications are that no new combo units are due anytime soon.

Unless of course they've heard our pleas and a made a dual-tuner SA. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

How much would you pay for a dual-tuner TiVo? $700?

$639.92

I've told him it's "gristle" too. He ignored me.

And honestly, using the quote feature of UBB is pretty wasteful of screen space. A simple pair of quote marks would do the job.

It seems like if Tivo wants to save money they'd add an Ethernet port -- all those tivos phoning home over dialup must cost a bundle.

I'd love to get rid of my wireless phone connector thing and put an 802.11b card in my Tivo instead, personally.

AND dual tuners. I'd pay handsomely for that ...

(and no lexus ads ... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Somehow I doubt a retail floor salesperson would be privy to this sort of information. Somehow it doesn't seem credible TiVo would let this sort of information out at the height of the selling season. I do wonder why a salesperson would discourage a sale.

Having once been a sales droid myself, I'd say it is credible for a droid to know when a store is wanting to clear its inventory of an item. Slightly less crediblity would be given to a sales droid knowing that a new model was coming in after the holiday season. (And admittedly, he isn't a good droid if he told you to wait, but probably a decent human being.)

I wouldn't be too quick to poo-poo on this.

For what would the USB port be used?

Anyone running with the ethernet adapter add-on they sell at the 9th tee? Seems that with the recent growth of consumer broad band such an option would be quite popular.

Oh, how do you find out if your city has a local phone number for updates?

Posted by: stevel

The USB port could be used for a future networking adapter, a keyboard, external storage, all sorts of things.

For local access numbers, look at the POP list at www.uu.net
