OK, I am going to open my 30hr Phillips unit this weekend to backup the drive. I have downloaded dylan's boot disk and have purchased a Quantam 30M 4500rpm LC20 drive to backup onto. I have read the Hack FAQ and understand what I need to do there and what to do if I have a locked drive. However I have the following questions:

1. When I run the western digital dlgchk program to "unlock" my original tivo 30hr drive, do I need to do anything before putting it back in the unit? ie. do i need to somehow "relock" original drive?

2. Like I said, my replacement/backup drive is a Quantam 30M 4500rpm LC20. Are there any special utilites I should do to the drive before backup?
I've read the maxtor drives need to run some utility to turn off some ideturbo feature to help avoid stutter problems.

3. Do I need to format, etc the replacement/backup drive, or can I just backup to the drive as it is off the shelf.

4. After I put my 30hr backup into my 14hr tivo unit (replacing the smaller 14hr drive), do I need to do anything special other than turning the unit back on? I also remember reading that some drives have something negative happen until the drive is powered up and down
10 times?

Thanks again for any advice you can give me!

1. no
2. nothing special; you may want to test the drive as usual, i.e. run it for a while to "get the grease running", use vendor specific test/diagnostic utilities, etc., so you're spared nasty surprises.
3. no format necessary; the act of copying will get it all the format it needs http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif
4. no. You got it wrong with the power up/down, it has nothing to do here.
