Can I use 30hr v1.3 backup to upgrade a 14hrv1.2 unit??

I have both a Phillips 30 hr tivo and Phillips 14 hr tivo. The 14 hr tivo was a display model with lifetime service subscription. This 14 hr unit is also v1.2 of the software and will not upgrade to v1.3. I've read in this forum that display models are somehow flagged by tivo as display models and are not allowed a software upgrade. Although the differences between 1.2 and 1.3 are not that big of a deal, I'm sure I'll change my mind with the new 2.0 stuff. SO, My questions are:
Can I make a backup of my Phillips 30hr v1.3 drive and replace the Phillips 14hr v1.2 drive?
If so, will this new drive be able to upgrade to v2.0?
Finally, If I'm stuck with v1.2 on the 14hr, can I add a B drive to it and upgrade without incident?
Thanks in advance for all your input!

From what I've read here the drive swap is no problem as long it is from the same vendor ie a Philips 30 hr into a Philips 14 hr.See: http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum6/HTML/000978.html
I haven't seen anything about the software upgrade issue that you mention.

I did that exact thing. Used a 30hr Tivo drive backup to upgrade my 14hr tivo. They were both Phillips boxes. I saw somewhere that both had to be same brand as it cause a problem with Tivo servers otherwise.
As far as the subscription, nothing changes as serial number is on the motherboard, not the drive.

I have a 14hr that I bought as a demo and it has a lifetime sub. I called Tivo to find out why I didn't get the push. They said it is a dealer sub and I woulbn't get the upgrades. Well I have a 30hr with 2 drives (this has not been upgraded) and I'll backup the 30 A drive to the A drive on the 14hr and get the sub without paying. Now since the 30hr is 2 drives and 14hr has 1, will that be a problem. I have an 80hr that I'm going to install as the B drive. Will this work. From what I read it should.
Thanks

I was going to say no it is not a good Idea. because, TiVo will get mad but that is if you went from a box with 1.3 from the factory and put in the 1.2 backup. (Why would a box with 1.3 pre installed in the factory need to be updated to 1.3)

No problem to put a 30 hr 1.3 image on a unit, of the same brand, that was once a 14-hour 1.2, BUT what you've described above doesn't sound like its going to work -- taking your 30 hr drive A, from a two-drive unit, and copying it to your 14-hour WONT work, as the image on drive A is married to the drive B in your 30 hour.
Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your plan, or you have a different technique than typically discussed on the board...

From what I understand this will not work. The images on the two drives from the 30 hr are married. The capacity was defined when the drives were married at the factory and without Tiger or someone like him to do the bit twiddling they are fixed. I suppose you could do the upgrade if you did an image copy of your B drive to the 80 GB drive. But the additional space wouldn't be recognised just as an image copy of an A drive to a larger drive doesn't recognise the additional space. We keep getting hints from Tiger that eventually this type of thing will be possible. Its not that what you are proposing is impossible it is just that the tools to do it are not at the level of a simple BlessTiVo disk at this time. I get the feeling that those in the know are waiting for the 2.0 software to be released before making tools to do this generally available.
