hey.. I dont know much about the sony tivos but I saw a commercial for a sony tivo and the menus looked good.. way better than the menus on my philips.. I hate the guide on my philips.. are the menus any different between the 2 stand alone units or was that a sony directivo i saw?

The actual menus are mostly the same between them, except they have different backgrounds.. Go to the store and see if you can find a demo up.. My local best buy has two Tivo's running demos, one Phillips and one Sony..

The appearance of the menus on the ad are not quite representative of the actual units. As Otto says, there are only minor cosmetic differences between the two brands' menus.
