Manual repeating recordings

Hey, folks... here's a question for you.

I'm in Canada, so obviously I'm not able to subscribe to the Tivo service. I've been using manual recording quite successfully, and my Tivo is able to phone home regularly to set its clock, so everything is good.

The one oddity I've noticed is this. Every 3-4 weeks, my repeating manual recordings seem to 'run out of steam.' That is, the To Do List will stop showing entries like "Fri 12/19 9:00pm," instead showing the "None Upcoming" message.

This doesn't necessarily happen in chronological order - that is, a repeating recording on 12/31 may be fine, but one on 12/28 may show as "None Upcoming," so it doesn't seem to be that simple...

The only way I can restore the repeating recordings is to delete all of the "None Upcoming" events, and re-program them as repeating recordings again. Then wait a few weeks for it to 'choke' again.

Is this an inevitable consequence of running the Tivo without the service, or is there something I can do to work around this problem?

(BTW, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd be happy to pay for the service - even if only to avoid this situation - but Tivo refuses to accept Canadian credit card numbers. Hint.)

This just happened to me, three months after getting my TiVo. All of the repeating manual recordings changed to Season Passes. Since I don't have any listings, the TiVo doesn't know when the next show is on and marks them all "None Upcoming".

Sigh... I guess I should get around to hacking in listings, unless anyone has heard of TiVo finally moving in to Canada.

Head on down to Blaine, stop into 7-11 for a $200(USD) money order, and mail it off to Tivo. Problem solved. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif
